Ruam Raj Witthayanukul school in Chaiyaphum's Nern Sa-nga district on Friday led more than 300 parents, students and community leaders to release eyed butterfly lizards into the adjacent 89-rai community forest to prevent the reptile from dying out.
Local residents like to capture and eat the lizards, which has pushed the species to the brink of extinction.
The activity was held to mark National Mother’s Day.
The school also prohibits killing or capturing of the reptiles in the school and the community forest. Violators will be fined Bt500 for each lizard killed.
