Mahidol University (MU) yesterday announced the names of 20 mothers who won "outstanding" awards, which will be presented today during the "Mahidol - Mother's Day 2014" event at the MU Office of the President at the Salaya campus.
Phira Sithiamnuai, MU vice president for administration and university council secretary, presided over yesterday’s press conference to announce the recipients of “Outstanding Mum”, “Century Mum”, “Environmental Caring Mum” and “Jitsai Jaisikhao: Religious Mum” awards.
HRH Princess Somsavali will graciously present the awards to the winners during the annual event to mark Her Majesty the Queen’s birthday on August 12, which is celebrated as National Mother’s Day.
The Outstanding Mum Award, to recognise and honour outstanding contributions by mothers towards their children, has two categories – mother with healthy children, and mother of children with disabilities.
There are four awards in each category based on geographic location – Central, Northern, Northeastern and Southern regions. Of a total of 92 mothers nominated this year, eight were selected and honoured with the award.
Century Mum Awards – to honour mothers aged over 100 – will be presented to six recipients who were selected from 80 nominations. The Environmental Caring Mum Award – to recognise a mother’s contribution to her children and the environment because “good environment starts with Mum” – will be awarded to three recipients from the Northern, Central and Southern regions, while two other recipients will also be honoured for their sustainable work in this category.
The Jitsai Jaisikhao: Religious Mum Award will be given to one recipient.
