AS AN urgent measure to boost Thailand's tourism industry before the high season, a junta-led meeting yesterday agreed to exempt visa fees for Chinese and Taiwanese visitors for three months from August onwards.
To brace for the upcoming Asean Economic Community, the meeting also approved the special innovation coupon to improve competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises with a total allocation of Bt500 million (maximum Bt1 million per company).
Other highlights include extending the special development zone on the South border, especially the soft-loan project worth Bt25 billion, by three years.
There was also an agreement to revise city planning to facilitate businesses.
The panel met the National Council for Peace and Order chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha yesterday. The private sector comprises the Thai Chamber of Commerce, Federation of Thai Industries, Thai Bankers’ Association, Tourism Council of Thailand and Federation of Thai Capital Market Organisations.
