Law lecturer Worachet Pakeerut showed up at the military court yesterday after police lodged a petition seeking to extend his detention pending investigation.
The court approved the request, extending his detention by another 12 days until July 22. This is the third time that Worachet’s detention has been extended, and police can only ask for one more extension as suspects can be detained for no more than 48 days in total.
The court also granted Worachet temporary release on bail provided he refrained from staging anti-coup rallies, engaging in politics-related activities or leaving the country. He was taken into custody for failing to obey the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) summons for questioning.
Worachet, who is a key member of the Nitirat Group, has been at the forefront of the anti-lese majeste law movement.
