The draft interim constitution in now in the process of being submitted to His Majesty the King for signing, Assistant Army chief Gen Paibul Khumchaya said on Thursday.
Paibul, who is chief of the legal division of the National Council for Peace and Order, said he did not know how long the process of the submission of the draft would be. But he is certain that the draft will be sent back by the King for promulgation by the end of July.
The interim charter will spell out the authority of the NCPO and the interim administration as well as the composition of the National Legislative Assembly and the Reform Council.
Paibul declined to say whether NCPO chief Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha would become the interim prime minister following the promulgation of the interim charter.
He also declined to confirm whether Prayuth’s term as Army chief would be extended after he reaches his mandatory retirement at the end of September.
