THE SECOND Citizens Forum for Reform will be held in Nakhon Ratchasima today to gather ideas from all sides to bridge inequality in Thai society.
Suthichai Yoon, chairman of Nation Multimedia Group (NMG), will moderate the forum on “Eradicating Social Inequality, Lessening Thai Social Crisis”, organised by Krungthep Turakij newspaper, NOW26 and the Nakhon Ratchasima Chamber of Commerce.
NMG president Duangkamol Chotana said social disparities in Thailand have emerged in various dimensions, spawning violent conflicts in society, so the organisers had tabled the topic to brainstorm solutions and recommendations for concrete implementation.
It could be a system to allow the agriculture sector to become self-sufficient and a force to propel the country forward, or the promotion of equality in the access to resources or a design for a society with less inequality, she said. “Although social inequality, a long-established problem, won’t be solved in the near future, the forum will be part of the problem-solving effort. As a media organisation, this role of creating public awareness and stimulating all sides in society to think is very important,” she said.
The event, part of activities spanning 11 provinces in four regions, will bring together policymakers, opinion leaders and experts from various fields to tackle the issue as well as “Resource Management for Sustainable Income”.
The panellists include Permsak Makarapirom from Mahidol University’s Research Centre for Peace Building, Ekkachai Srivilas from the Office of Peace and Governance at King Prajadhipok’s Institute and Preecha Uitragool from the Nakhon Ratchasima Community Foundation.
The next forum will be held in Nonthaburi to gather ideas on and solutions for corruption.
