The United States made the decision about the guest list for its Independence Day party, deputy junta spokesman Winthai Suvari said Friday.
The junta understood that the US Embassy in Bangkok had to be careful in their public function during this period of time, he said. Each country has its own and different rules and traditions as to the way they should react in the public.
The US Embassy celebrated Independence Day on Thursday night but the guest list did not include the generals of the Junta, which seized power in May. However, former cabinet members of Yingluck government were in attendance.
Recent official meetings between the Thai military and the US Embassy have taken place in an appropriate manner, with both sides aiming not to cause problems to the others.
“We understand their rules and traditions. In the future, the limitation on expression may be relaxed. The cooperation and projects between Thai military and that of the US, Australia and European countries remain the same,” he said.
