Khon Kaen's Srinakarin Hospital has finished identifying 12 Vietnamese students killed in the June 2 accident when their chartered van collided with an 18-wheel truck in Chaiyaphum's Kaeng Khro district and burst into flames.
Forensic expert Dr Wirut Khunkitti said the hospital had issued documents to confirm the deaths, and relatives could now apply for death certificates from the Kaeng Khro district office. They can also make arrangements with the Vietnamese consulate to transport the bodies back to Vietnam. Hospital officials have also contacted the Tourism Authority of Thailand to arrange compensation to the deceased persons’ families, he added.
Pol Colonel Panas Boonyanyao of Kaeng Khro Police Station said police had concluded the van driver drove recklessly and crossed the lane. The van’s insurance firm would pay compensation for the 13 deaths, including the driver, at Bt600,000 each, he said.
