Five workers at the Asia Industrial Estate in Map Ta Phut were sent to hospital yesterday morning after a suspicious strong odour spread through the estate and nearby communities.
The workers developed nausea, vomited and had chest tightness.
An initial probe found that the odour came from a lactic acid-making factory’s wastewater treatment system, hence the Indutrial Estate Authority of Thailand urged the factory to improve its wastewater treatment system in seven days.
Last Saturday, more than 200 people in Rayong’s Ban Chang district were evacuated after a suspicious odour blanketed several communities. Officials rushed to inspect factories but found no chemical leak. The cause of the odour was still unknown.
