Election Commission member Somchai Srisuthiyakorn said on his Facebook page yesterday that he would look into the airing of a "one-sided" seminar by the Assembly for the Defence of Democracy on Saturday on state-run Channel 11.
He said he would ask the EC to submit a letter to the minister in charge of the Public Relations Department asking who gave the green light for the station’s broadcast of the seminar at Thammasat University’s Rangsit campus and how much money was spent on it.
The seminar tended to favour government politicians and the information presented might have created public confusion and divisiveness, he said.
A case in point was the assertion that the government can submit a Royal Decree to set an election date without seeking the Election Commission’s consensus, he said.
If station management allowed the broadcast of the seminar, they will be slapped with an official warning, he said.
