THE BANK for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC) has launched three funds with the aim of collecting up to Bt20 billion from March 10 to June 30 in order to help farmers affected by the rice-pledging scheme, Lamphun BAAC office director Jarup
Of the three funds, one would collect donations, while people can deposit savings in the other two. The contributions to the other two funds will be returned at the end of the year.
People can make donations to help farmers via the BAAC account number 0200-3-3477-582.
The BAAC office in Lamphun hopes to get Bt30 million in donations to help the 2,416 farmers who are owed Bt167.5 million under the scheme, she said.
Meanwhile, the BAAC office in Khon Kaen will waive fines for outstanding debts until the farmers get paid for their pledged rice.
It will also provide loans of up to Bt100,000 at 0.58 per cent interest to the affected farmers, assistant director for the Khon Kaen BAAC office Pongpan Suksamran said.
As many as 34,201 farmers in Khon Kaen are still waiting for Bt1.936 billion in payment under the rice scheme.
