An Imam was killed and his son was severely injured in a shooting attack in deep southern province of Narathiwat's Yi Ngor district on Sunday.
The victims were identified as Kori Doloh, 62, an imam of Kuyi mosque in Tapoyo sub-district, and his 17-year-old son, Aris, police said.
The assault occurred Sunday morning on a road in front of Baan Balukasano School. Aris was riding on a motorcycle with his father on the pillion when two men wearing helmets followed him and then opened fires at them from behind before speeding away.
The father was on his way to teach at a school. The imam died at the scene while his son was seriously wounded and sent to Naradhiwas Rajanagarindra Hospital.
Initially, the police presume that the attack was intended to create unrest and instigate conflicts in the area.
