Four journalists' professional organisations Monday condemned the recent violence that killed three children and injured dozens of people near protest sites in Bangkok and Trat province.
The Thai Journalists Association, the Thai Broadcast Journalists Association, the National Press Council of Thailand and the News Broadcasting of Thailand urged caretaker government to take responsibility to maintain peace and order in the country. The government has to bring wrongdoers into justice, they said in a statement.
They also urged the anti and pro-government groups to exercise their right to assemble or protest peacefully and constitutionally. They must refrain from resorting to violence for achieving their political objectives, the journalist groups said.
The media also should report the political conflict cautiously as well as give fair treatment to all parties in the conflict, the associations said.
Media report should be conducted for public interest in order to prevent any parties to use it to provoke violence, they said.
