Hundreds of angry anti-government protesters on Sunday night forced the Phuket Red Cross Fair organisers to cancel a concert by rock star Seksan "Sek Loso" Sukpimai.
Seksan is among celebrities who have campaigned for people to join the February 2 election and his participation in the campaign drew much criticism from anti-government factions, who posted angry comments on Sek Loso’s Facebook page. Seksan, who has been enjoying a revival after fighting a drug problem, fired back at his online critics, swearing at them in a posting that was later pulled down from his Facebook page.
Hundreds of protesters gathered at the fair in the Saphan Hin area and, despite Phuket Red Cross President Pawinee Inthusut’s attempt to talk them into disbanding, the crowd refused to budge. The organisers, at 10.30pm, announced the concert cancellation. The announcement evoked cheers from the protesters, who blew their whistles and started to head home.
Despite the cancellation, Seksan claimed on his Facebook that he would return to the island to perform.
