Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and military leaders yesterday showed up at Privy Council president General Prem Tinsulanonda's residence to wish him a Happy Birthday.
Prem is now 94.
Yingluck, who is also the defence minister, showed up alongside Deputy Defence Minister General Yuthasak Sasiprapha, Defence Ministry’s permanent secretary General Tanongsak Apirakyothin, Supreme Commander Tanasak Patimapragorn, Royal Thai Army chief General Prayuth Chan-o-Cha, Royal Thai Navy chief Admiral Surasak Rounroengrom, and Royal Thai Air Force ACM Prajin Juntong.
Their meeting lasted for about 15 minutes.
An informed source said Prem expressed the wish to see unity in Thailand as well as in the armed forces.
The source added that Prem also told the armed forces’ chiefs to support the prime minister in her work for the country.
“The prime minister presented a flower garland to Prem and wished him good health,” the source added.
After emerging from the meeting, Tanongsak said Prem told the prime minister and all those present to take care of the country.
“He has placed an emphasis on ‘unity’,” Tanongsak said.
Asked whether Yingluck invited Prem to join efforts to reform Thailand, Tanong said, “No”.
Tanongsak also refused to elaborate on what advice Prem gave about the ongoing political reform.
“Please ask the prime minister directly,” he said.
