Thailand’s embassies and consulates around the world will host ceremonies on the day of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Aduyadej’s cremation in October so that Thai expatriates can join in the historic event, Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Busadee Santipitak said on Wednesday.

The ministry had notified the embassies and consulates to organise the observances for October 26 at their own facilities if appropriate or at local Buddhist temples.

Each venue will display a portrait of the beloved monarch at which mourners can offer traditional wooden funeral flowers, Busadee said.

She said Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha considers the ceremonies held overseas important because the monarchy is revered by Thais everywhere. He feels that expatriates should have the same opportunity as their countrymen at home to mourn the late King and participate in the historic cremation rites.
