Sander Van Doorn is one of the world's top-ranked DJs
Branded a technical and musical genius, Sander Van Doorn has without doubt established a name for himself in the electronic-dance-music scene as the world’s most influential and popular DJ and producer in trance and progressive house.
Ranked 16th-best DJ in the world at the international DJ Mag Awards 2011 and No 4 in the Top 250 Trance Addict 2011 poll, he’s been praised by music icons such as Carl Cox, Armin Van Buuren and Tiesto.
With two full-length albums, numerous hit singles, remixes of the world’s biggest artists, sold-out gigs in all major venues and festivals, his own successful record label and a weekly radio show, there’s no doubt that van Doorn is one of dance music’s favourite sons. Within just a few years, Sander has blasted his way to the top. And he’s ready to take on the world, one dancefloor at a time.
He gave us a little chat via email just before he hopped on a plane.
What are you up to now?
I’m actually in the studio working and preparing for my tour of Asia.
Where have you performed lately?
Let’s see. I have done events at ADE in Amsterdam, Russia, Slovakia, the USA a few times, Denmark, Italy, Finland, Brazil, Canada, Spain and Germany!
What’s the most memorable gig for you in 2012 so far?
Ultra in Miami is always one of the best shows and I would say that holds true for this year as well. But honestly, each show these days has something memorable about it, so it’s hard to pick just one.
What’s your ideal party like?
I wouldn’t say I have an ideal party. For me it’s all about giving the crowd a good party, so I don’t think about it in terms of myself and what I want. It’s all about them.
Since you started out, how has your sound evolved?
I have always just played and produced what I like and it’s been amazing that fans seem to like it too. My sound can be aggressive. I incorporate a lot of musicality to what I play and write, but it also has to some power behind it.
What’s the latest DJ equipment you acquired?
I have a new Mac coming! I’m very excited about that.
Who would you like to work or tour with the most in 2013?
Sander Van Doorn is performing at Levels on Sukhumvit soi 11 on Wednesday. Entry is Bt800 and the party starts from 10pm.
