Celebrating 120 years of operations, Kempinski Hotels – Europe’s oldest luxury hotel group – recently hosted “Ignite the Night” festivities to delight guests.
The Siam Kempinski Hotel Bangkok is marking the milestone with a series of events throughout the year that reflect the brand’s unique European flair.
The celebrations began two weeks ago with Bangkok’s own “Ignite the Night” event – a candle-lighting ritual in the lavish lobby, where 36 uniformed staff lit the hotel’s beautiful flower centrepiece as a symbol of the parent group’s glorious celebration.
Guests and visitors were welcome to witness this marvellous ritual. Opera singers provided appropriate musical accompaniment as sipped complimentary glasses of bubbly.
The lighting ritual will carry on all this month, daily at 6pm, with staff members in uniform marching into the lobby.
The 120th-anniversary celebrations will also feature a “Kempinski Travel in Style Competition”, offering the chance to win a 10-night tour for two of three Kempinski hotels, complete with airfare, limousine airport transfers and suite accommodation.
“After 120 years we’re delighted to pay tribute to an extraordinary past and herald an exciting future,” says Markus Semer, chairman and chief executive of Kempinski Hotels.
“Our founder, Berthold Kempinski, paved the way for a new standard of hospitality, based on timeless European elegance and impeccable service. He created venues that introduced guests to new experiences, in unique and original surroundings, and his innovative and entrepreneurial approach has remained the inspiration for our development over the years.”
The Siam Kempinski Hotel Bangkok also has the “1897 Heritage Afternoon Tea” at its Hanuman Bar, a chance to travel back in time to when the Kempinski brand was born.
The Hanuman Bar is presenting the impeccable “European heritage” afternoon-tea set through July, with a tempting assortment of sweet and savoury treats that blend perfectly with the extensive selection of teas and coffees.
Highlights include the Baby Berliner doughnut with strawberry-jam filling, almond blanc manger raspberry and pistachio brittle, rhubarb tart meringue, macerated fruit cake with almond roulades and apricot jam, and vintage chocolate pralines.
A talented jazz duo provides pleasant background music to add class to the occasion. Teatime is 2 to 5pm. The price is Bt800-plus. Make reservations at (02) 162 9000 or Kempinski.com/bangkok
