HomePieces gets its decor items from China and India, but they'd be right at home in Shropshire
The compact size of HomePieces, a new store at the Crystal Design Centre, probably adds to the distinctively English country-style home charm it evokes. Young owner Chanyada Siripoonya believes the cosy, bucolic feel can enrich any home.
She’s amassed an impressive array of striking vintage graphics and appealingly eccentric decor on shopping trips over the past several years to home fairs in Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland.
“A friend and I used to make leather bags for a brand called The Look,” says Chanyada.
“But, when I go shopping, home decor is the first priority, not clothes or accessories. And I personally love the English countryside style – it’s so fascinating and homey, so geared to the family.
“It was always difficult buying nice, high-quality products here in any one place, so I decided to set up my own small shop full of many little things that can create a warm mood in the home, whether you live in a city flat or a rural mansion.”
English country style, loosely defined, mixes furniture styles and collectible mementoes in what might be called a “triumph of clutter”.
The white shelves at HomePieces are filled with cheerful items – ceramic mugs with mood-lifting graphics, candle holders for romantic ambience, charming bookends to boost creativity, hand-painted toothbrushes to lend a vintage touch to any bathroom. There are classy cake stands to ensure bon appetite and metal mailboxes to add pizzazz to your front door.
Chanyada gets her products directly from manufacturers in China and India. She says mainlaind China is good for ceramics, Hong Kong for top-quality glassware and India for its metal and wood decor.
Learn what makes English country life so welcoming and then bring its best qualities back to your own home.
