By Myself at Asiatique offers handcrafted accessories for every occasion
The newly opened Asiatique the Riverfront is drawing locals and tourists as much as for its history and for its range of shopping and lifestyle attractions. Spread out over the pier where traders from Europe once moored and home to many old warehouses and traditional Thai-style buildings, it’s home to hundreds of chic shopping stores, restaurants, bars and cafes and an ideal place to chill by the river.
Step into Warehouse 5 and check out smart handcrafted leather accessories and stationery at By Myself boutique, created by 30-year-old Tanawat “Ouu” Kuansuwan. A graduate in communication arts from Suan Dusit Rajabhat University, Tanawat opened his first shop in Suan Lum Night Bazaar selling handmade key rings and mobile phone straps under the name By Myself. His goodies caught on with teens and tourists and before long, he was also offering fashion accessories and stationery.
When the night bazaar closed two years ago, he moved to Chatuchak Weekend Market but competition was fierce and his stall failed to flourish. He opened at Asiatique in May and is targeting customers from Singapore and Hong Kong. The shop measures just 10 square metres and it’s packed with wooden shelves, tables and leather stools. There’s also a corner that serves as a workshop where Tanawat sews wallets and iPhone cases while customers wait.
“All my products are handcrafted. I use the best organic tanned leather from Australia and Argentina to ensure quality,” he says.
Among the standouts are passport cases with pockets for credit and ID cards as well a multi-compartment purses. You’ll also find key rings, iPhone and iPad cases, name card bags, trays and coasters, braclets and bags, as well as a seletion of men’s used shirts.
By Myself is in room 5016-17, Warehouse 5 in Asiatique. It’s open daily from 5pm to 11pm. Call (089) 817 8582 or visit www.facebook.com/ByMyselfThailand
