L'Oreal Thailand awards fellowships to three leading female scientists at a glittering gala
L’Oreal (Thailand), with the support of the Thai National Commission for Unesco, recently presented its “Women in Science” fellowship awards to the three female Thai researchers recognised under the 2012 programme in a grand evening ceremony held at the Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok.
The celebration was presided over by Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha and attended by the programme’s committee, distinguished guests in science and research and previous fellows of the programme.
To mark the tenth anniversary of L’Oreal’s “For Women in Science” programme in Thailand, the company granted fellowships for research in three fields. In the Life Science category, a fellowship was granted to Dr Sansanee Noisakran from the National Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, National Science and Technology Development Agency for her contribution to “Investigation on mechanisms of dengue virus infection and host cellular responses for better understanding of dengue pathogenesis.”
In the Material Science category, Assistant Professor Dr Punnama Siriphanon from the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science at King’s Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang was awarded a fellowship for her study, “Nanotechnology for Eco-friendly Development in Textile Finishing”.
The grant in the Chemistry category was awarded to Assistant Professor Dr Atitaya Siripinyanond from the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Mahidol University for her research “Investigation of particle size distribution of engineered nanoparticles in food, consumer products, and environmental samples.”
“As a proud supporter of this programme for 10 consecutive years, we have recognised a total of 40 outstanding female scientists to date.
The company has increased the value of each grant from to Bt250,000 to reinforce its commitment to supporting Thai women in science,” said Umesh Phadke, managing director of L’Oreal Thailand.
