Phuket's Kantary Bay Hotel opens a delightful cafe on the beach
Cafe Kantary, the newest addition to Kantary Bay Phuket Hotel, sits right alongside the beach in Laem Panwa and with the hotel’s mini mart right next door, draws shoppers as well as passers-by into its welcoming atmosphere to sip an aromatic coffee and perhaps enjoy a sinfully rich dessert.
Light and airy, the 20-seat bakery is decorated in earth-toned shades and sparingly furnished with wooden tables, armchairs and stools.
“Everything is home-made by our chefs. The cafe is small and cosy, making customers feel like they are sitting in their own homes,” says general manager Somjai Teera-Umpronpunt.
Morning Mist Arabica coffee beans are ground for the flavourful espresso, Americano, cappuccino, latte and mocha, which can be topped with whipped cream or served as affogato with ice cream at prices that range from Bt55 to Bt95. The house Kantary coffee is a little sweet and comes with caramel and hazelnut topped with crushed cookies for Bt60. Those wanting to give caffeine a miss can choose from a variety of Italian sodas and smoothies for Bt45 and Bt65.
Few customers can resist the home-made Italian gelato, which comes in a range of flavours including mango and green apple sherbet, vanilla, coconut, chocolate and coffee, or you will try yoghurt blueberry, passion fruit, rum raisin, tiramisu, pine apple sherbet, banoffi and white chocolate chip. It’s priced at just Bt60 a scoop and for an extra Bt10 is served with a waffle.
Cafe Kantary also offers a variety of cakes, many of them made with fruits. There’s apple and red cherry tart, blueberry and strawberry cheesecake, as well as sacher tart and black forest cake along with panna cotta and creme brulee. Prices start at Bt80.
Cafe Kantary is located in front of Kantary Bay Phuket Hotel. It’s open daily from 8am to midnight. Call (076) 391 514.
