The third annual Kaen International Film Festival from March 15 to 18 will feature more than just screenings. There’ll be a “star search” contest, a seminar on joint ThaiLao efforts and in fact a big presence from Laos, with a slew of its superstars and directors in attendance.
Central Shopping Centre Khon Kaen and Khon Kaen University are sharing the hosting duties.
Among the titles lined up from both countries are “Hug Khao Yai”, “I Love You Phooyai Ban”, “Hak Elee 2” and “Khru Khong Khoi”.
The screenings will outdoors at Central Plaza and free of charge.
Lao film directors Anousone Sirisackda, Anixay Keola and Prachya Pinakew will be among the industry people talking about “ThaiLao Film in Crisis: How to Survive in Today’s World”.
And Thai directors Prachya Pinkaew, Nonzee Nimibutr and Thanit Jitnukul will be judging a shortfilm competition, the winners of which will split Bt75,000.
Prizes worth more than Bt30,000 await the winners of the Kaen Star Challenge, a talent contest.
