The Sensation party from Europe hits Impact, complete with geysers
Bangkok dance maniacs get to experience the nightlife extravaganza “Sensation: The Ocean of White” tomorrow at Impact Arena, with five DJs in the line-up along with water fountains and balloons.
Sensation is a party brand inaugurated in Amsterdam in 2000. Organiser ID&T has since taken it to more than a million people around the world, with different themes and sets.
Tomorrow the party pays its first visit to Bangkok with the “Ocean of White” theme that’s used to initiate every new country on the tour. Impact Arena will become a water world, with a stream running through a raised canal and 48 big fountains splashing the roof in time to the music.
Supposedly almost as spectacular as the celebrated fountains of the Bellagio hotel in Las Vegas, these gushers go through 2.1 million litres of water per hour. An Ocean of White party routinely takes 300 people a full 48 hours to build, with 40 trailers to haul the material.
Sensation founder Duncan Stutterheim originally asked his guests to dress in white in tribute to his brother and ID&T co-founder Miles, who’d died in a car accident. Some 40,000 people came dressed in white.
The Bangkok blast runs from 8pm to almost dawn and also features live performances and an array of activities to keep things hopping. The main attraction, though, is the five DJs.
Leading the pack is LA-based Mr White, host of every Sensation event and a master of fine house and tech house.
Riva Starr from London is a world-class DJ who changed people’s perception of house with a unique style called Snatch, grabbing various musical styles. Dutchman Fedde le Grand is widely hailed as one of the world’s best electronic-dance artists and currently ranks No 14 in DJ Mag’s Top 100 poll. He’s worked with Will.i.am and Madonna.
Things move underground at the hands of the Man with No Shadow, “Holland’s Most Wanted Technojock”, with diverse remix experience. Also from the Netherlands, Turkish-born Deniz Koyu is an MTV magazine electronic-dance-music artist to watch and, in the view of DJ Sebastian Ingrosso, he’s “big-time talent”.
Sensation has had such top DJs as Tiesto, Armin van Buren, the Swedish House Mafia, Darren Emerson and David Guetta on deck in the past. The latest crew looks ready to join them at the top of the game.
You have to dress all in white to get in. Accessories, shoes and bags can be various colours, but your main top and bottom have to be white. Nothing white in the closet? Get there early – there’ll be stalls selling clothes at the entrance.
If Heineken imports another Sensation party to Thailand, count on more thrilling costume play with party themes like “The Oak of Love” and “Innerspace”.
So encourage Heineken by tossing down a few at the bars around the arena – make sure to have cash because credit cards aren’t accepted.
ALL SOLD OUT
“Sensation: The Ocean of White” starts at 8 tomorrow night at Impact Arena.
In f you don’t have a ticket, too bad – it’s completely sold out. Pray there’s a “next time” and get a ticket early.
