Trade Dept's website has helped match up 550 businesses
There have been almost 2 million visits from 31 countries to the International Trade Promotion Department’s website Thaitrade.com, as more businesses move to trading online.
The success of the website has encouraged the department to launch a mobile application for both iOS and Android systems to facilitate more online trade.
Director-general Nuntawan Sakuntanaga said the department would continue developing systems to encourage more Thai businesses to trade online.
“In the digital era, Thai traders can go global easily by selling goods online. The department, which is directly responsible for promoting overseas trade, will continue to encourage more traders and buyers to go online, as this platform offers low operational costs and saves time,” she said.
Since the website was launched in July 2012, the website had drawn 1.9 million visitors worldwide as of the end of last month. About 11,476 sellers and 56,013 buyers have registered with the site and generated Bt1.64 billion in sales.
Foreign traders who have visited the website frequently include those from China, India, the United States, Malaysia, South Korea, Vietnam, Britain, Singapore and Australia.
Products that are popular on the website include food and beverages, clothes and fashion products, cosmetics and healthcare products, agricultural products, furniture, bicycle, auto parts, home and garden decorative items, medical equipment, as well as jewellery and ornaments.
The website not only provides room for traders and buyers, it also conducts business-to-businesses matching. So far, 550 businesses have been matched and enterprises from 21 countries have joined this B2B activity.
Thai businesses have been matched with counterparts from Ghana, Canada, Japan, Turkey, Taiwan, the Netherlands, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Poland, Malaysia, Mexico, Germany, Britain, the United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Australia, India, Israel, Iran and Hong Kong.
Combined trade volume initially was valued Bt1.02 billion.
The department also provides the free “DITP Connect” application for smartphones in Thai and English languages for traders.
