Food producer gears for trade opportunities ahead of AEC

S KhonKaen Foods plans to explore business opportunities in Asean countries in preparation for Asean Economic Community 2015.
The company will also expand its franchised Yunnan pork leg quick-service restaurants to boost its total sales by 15 per cent this year
Last year, the company increased revenue 9.4 per cent to Bt2.02 billion from Bt1.85 billion in the prior year, but net profit fell 4 per cent to Bt91.8 million from Bt95.6 million due to the 21-per-cent surge in pork prices.
Effective cost controls and higher sales helped the company lower its unit cost and keep earnings close to the 2012 level.
CEO Chareon Rujirasopon said yesterday that the company is optimistic about this year, especially for its fish ball sales, which rose 16 per cent last year, frozen meals sales, which were 32 per cent higher, and quick-service restaurant sales, which climbed 63 per cent.
The company has distributors in Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia to deliver its food products to retail outlets, convenience stores and fresh markets there.
With enhanced competitiveness and strong sales of its processed food products, S KhonKaen hopes to become an “Asean Kitchen” in the future, especially considering the vast opportunities opening up under regional economic integration, Chareon said.
The company had declared a dividend of Bt2.43 a share.
