The newly launched Mazda3 is maintaining strong sales momentum despite the decelerating auto market, becoming the second-best selling model in the compact car market last month.
The extremely high popularity of the Mazda3 and even the CX-5 crossover, both featuring Mazda’s SkyActiv technology, helped the Japanese automaker secure sales of 2,727 of these vehicles in May.
Mazda Sales (Thailand) president Choichi Yuki said the automaker’s SkyActiv technology has gained strong market acceptance in the country.
“No further proof is needed. The Mazda CX-5 and Mazda3 were both able to create waves in the Thai automobile market. This has enabled sales of full SkyActiv vehicles to reach 5,959 units since they were launched in Thailand,” he said.
From January to May, Mazda sales in the kingdom reached 14,017 vehicles, comprising 2,849 Mazda2s, 2,772 Mazda3s, 2,365 CX-5s, 6,025 BT-50 PROs and 6 premium models.
Vice president of marketing Sureetip La-Ongthong Chomthongdee noted that although the recent market situation is “cloudy” and does not allow much to be done, there remains a high level of purchasing power from customers.
“If we do not do something, the opportunity will be lost. There are actually many channels to stimulate customer spending. During this period, a promotional campaign like Mazda’s ‘Ready to Brazil’ promotion is a great example of how MST’s marketing strategy aims to increase market share,” she said.
Mazda is also joining hands with Siam Sport Media Syndicate and other partners in staging the “Star Soccer World Cup Fever” campaign, with a Mazda2 Racing Series worth Bt686,000 being up for grabs.
The total value of all prizes amount to Bt2.3 million.
The company is also offering the “Mazda MAXX Deal” for customers of the Mazda2, BT-50 PRO and CX-5 to further stimulate sales.
Sureetip added: “By coming out to stimulate the market and emphasise our sportiness and latest SkyActiv technology that have been getting excellent customer feedback, the campaign will also benefit customers looking for a high-performance vehicle with outstanding design as well as special offers. This should help boost sales in June. Mazda feels the Thai automobile market is 'coming back' as consumer confidence gets stronger.”
