Kasikornbank chairman and CEO Banthoon Lamsam said that the State Enterprise Policy Commission or "Superboard" would focus on two things - service efficiency and spending transparency.
Banthoon, a member of the Superboard which will convene for the second time today, said “The first thing all need to know is the objectives of each state enterprise. In practice, they can’t do what is opposed to their objectives.”
He noted that all state enterprises’ duty is to serve the public, but that in turn generates low profits or even losses in some cases. In other cases, some “invisible hands” are at play, to draw money from the state enterprises.
To him, Thai Airways International (THAI) is among the first state enterprises that would dominate the Superboard’s discussion, due to its huge debt burden. Aside, the Superboard should discuss if specialised financial institutions (SFIs), under the Finance Ministry’s supervision, operate in accordance with their objectives.
The Superboard was set up by the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) to oversee all state enterprises.
