The Election Commission (EC) has begun talking with Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and the government discussing when the election should be held.
The meeting venue is at the Royal Thai Air Force Academy.
Before the meeting, EC chairman Supachai Somcharoen said the EC proposed three choices of election date to the government including July 20, August 17 and September 14. It also presented the results of its previous meeting with security agencies and political parties as well as Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva.
The EC sees July 20 an appropriate date. If the government disagrees, it must give the reasons, he said adding that the EC would listen but its stance is that the election must not be held in the atmosphere of conflicts and that there must be no violence.
