New York - Author Harper Lee, a long-time holdout against digital editions of her work, has agreed to release her famous novel To Kill a Mockingbird as an e-book in July, HarperCollins Publishers said Monday.
"I'm still old fashioned, I love dusty old books and libraries," said Lee, who celebrated her 88th birthday on Monday. "This is Mockingbird for a new generation."
Thee-book along with a digital audio book, narrated by Oscar-winning actress Sissy Spacek, will be released July 8, which coincides with the 54th anniversary of the book's original publication.
To Kill a Mockingbird, which dealt with racial inequality, has become a seminal work of American literature. It won a Pulitzer Prize and has sold 30 million copies in English worldwide.
