The Criminal Court Friday convicted the owner of the Santika Pub in excise tax avoidance worth over Bt85 million and sentenced him to 12-month imprisonment.
The court found Wisuk Sejsawat, the managing director of White and Brothers which operate Santika Pub, of refusing to submit excise tax form to pay Bt85 million worth of excise tax from November 2003 to December 31 2008.
The pub was hit by a massive fire on New Year Eve in 2008, killing 67 patrons.
Wisuk’s lawyer will seek his release on bail to fight against the conviction in the Appeals Court.
