EC submits petition to charter court on election date

With its attempts to postpone the February 2 election having failed to bear fruit, the Election Commission has asked the Constitutional Court to rule on who has the authority to reschedule the election date - the caretaker Cabinet or the commission.
Suranee Polthawee, a representative of the EC, Wednesday filed a petition signed by five election commissioners seeking legal clarification from the court.
The EC did not petition the court for an injunction delaying the election, however.
