Udon Thani police have arrested the mother of a young man who was dubbed the “thief of the year” on charges that she collaborated with her new husband to rob a hospital and houses in Udon Thani.
Udon Than police chief Pol Major Pirapong Wongsaman held a press conference on Wednesday morning to announce the arrest of Srisuda Pranomsri, 45, and her husband, Theprasit Dokchan, 29, and display a variety of allegedly stolen items.
Pirapong said the items were transported in two trucks from Srisuda’s rented house in Udon Thani’s Muang district.
Srisuda’s son, Patiphan Chamnarnprom, 22, was arrested and jailed last year for breaking into 33 houses after which he became known among Udon Thani people as the “thief of the year”.
Pirapong said Srisuda was arrested in connection to a burglary on May 27 of a house in the Hansa housing estate in Muang district. Among the allegedly stolen items was a new Yamaha motorcycle.
On Tuesday, police found the motorcycle in front of Srisuda’s rented house so police searched the house and found two truckloads of stolen items, Pirapong said.
He said most of the stolen items were taken from the Udon Thani provincial hospital, where Srisuda works as a temporary employee.
Pirapong said Srisuda stole the items from the hospital gradually over a period of time, and also burgled houses in the district.
Among the retrieved items were a microphone, two slide projectors, five printers, a modem, a desktop phone, a Sony video camera, a notebook computer, two LCD TVs, a DVD player, five mobile phones, eight power strips, two watches, seven routers, seven satellite receivers and two motorcycles.
