Explosion of fireworks at a fair in Krabi on Friday night left 21 people, mostly students performing on stage, injured.

Police said the accident happened at 9pm at the “Town of 12 Zodiacs” event organised by the Krabi Provincial Administrative Organisation.

The fireworks were lit just as a dance performance by students from two schools was about to end. After 10 sets of crackers had been launched, the 11th set exploded at its launching base about 10 metres from the stage.

The injured were aged between 14 and 18, and 17 of them were girls.
