Investigation launched after giant reclining Buddha image vandalised

Authorities are checking CCTV feeds as part of an investigation into the vandalisation of the giant reclining Buddha image in Ayutthaya.

A red marker was used to vandalise the Buddha image at Wat Koyasutha, which is a historical site in tambon Pratuchai, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya district, Ayutthaya province.

The names Nari Pornpaiboon and Udom La-uam were written and circled and the word “Jeh”, or sister, was written above them.

Kanya Baonid, director of Pratuchai Historical Park where the image is located, has said authorities will take severe legal action against the vandal(s). 

She said signs would be erected to warn peoplel against vandalising the historical site.
