A car crashed into a 7-Eleven shop in Pathum Thani province early Tuesday morning, setting the shop alight.

Captain Thirawat Phakprapai, an officer on duty at Samkhok Police Station, said the accident happened at about 12.30am on Pathum-Samkhok Road in Samkhok district.

Firefighters who arrived on 10 fire engines took about half an hour to control the blaze that raged through the three-unit three-storey shophouse of the 7-Eleven Sea-Space store.

The driver of the white Toyota Altis that crashed into the store, Thanawi Thanachotechuang, 27, was injured by the crash and also suffered minor burns.

He was treated at Pathum Thani Hospital.

Prapha Modejaem, 30, an assistant manager of the shop, told police that he was packing shelves when the accident occurred.

He alleged the car was speeding, with it first hitting a traffic sign in the middle of the road and catching fire and then crashing into the shop.

The blaze spread quickly, Prapha said.
