Zalora confident of making its presence felt in Thai market
Zalora, the Germany-based world No 1 online shopping site is expanding its business into Southeast Asia, with plans to set up an office in Thailand.
Zalora Thailand was officially launched in March with the aim to be the biggest online shopping destination for fashion and lifestyle products in Thailand, providing customers with a new shopping experience through professional services and pre-and-after sales services.
Zalora Thailand’s vice president of marketing, Benjamin Thompson, said the company sees high potential in this region because of the explosive growth of the Internet in countries throughout Southeast Asia.
“We aspire to provide customers with a new shopping sensation that is enjoyable. Our professional team will provide advice on the best look and fashion for Thai customers,” said Thompson.
Zalora.co.th, launched in March this year, has 60,000 members and 60,000 visitors per day. It aims to have 250,000 members by the end of this year. It also aims to increase the number of purchasing transactions from the few hundreds at present to a few thousands by the end of this year.
Zalora.co.th targets Internet-savvy Thai fashion lovers aged 18 to 35.
“Purchase transactions at Zalora.co.th is growing at 20 per cent per week. In Germany, we have about 100,000 orders per day,” said Thompson.
At Zalora.co.th, there are more than 300 international and local brands across a wide range of product categories, including clothing, bag, shoes, socks, perfume, sports items, ring, watches, kids’ clothing, beauty products, and accessories. There are a total of about 40,000 items. The prices of the products vary from Bt60 to Bt9,000.
The available brands include Across the Universe, AMAT, CRAZY, STEP, Glitz& Glam, Gravis, Dressology, Nike, Levi’s, Pierre Cardin, and Jeffrey Campbell.
“We offer free of charge delivery, irrespective of the volume or price of the total purchase. We guarantee delivery within three days to any destination in the country. We are partners with three main logistics service providers – Thailand Post, Quantum, and Kerry,” said Thompson.
He added that the company believes online shopping by Thai people is growing rapidly. Zalora.co.th’s goal is to make online shopping easy and convenient for people. It offers many kinds of payment services, including credit card, Internet banking, pay at ATM machine, pay at bank’s counter, and importantly pay cash-on-delivery.
“Cash-on-delivery service is unique and people like it as they pay after receiving the product,” said Thompson.
The company uses the industry standard encryption known as secure socket layer (SSL), 128-bit SSL security encryption certification from Verisign, to keep its customer orders information secure.
Thompson said that Zalora operates in eight countries in Southeast Asia. Apart from Thailand, it is also present in Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Taiwan, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Hong Kong. It now is the largest online shopping website in Thailand with an average 60,000 visitors per day, and it also has 70,000 fans on Facebook. It recently expanded the new warehouse in Bang Na, which now covers 2,500 square metres.
All products and parcels from Zalora come with forms on satisfaction guarantee and product return. If customers are not satisfied with an item they purchase, they can return the item within 30 days of delivery for refund of the purchase price, but the item must be returned unused and undamaged with its original box.
“We really hope to bring secure, easy, and convenient online shopping service for Thai people. We would like to let them experience online shopping and not be scared about it,” said Thompson.
