PM insists Kasit can stay
Prime Minister
Abhisit Vejjajiva insisted that Foreign Minister
Kasit Piromya can remain in his office.
Speaking during his weekly TV programme on Channel 11, Abhsit said the case against Kasit did not damage his credibility and he had been performing well as the foreign minister.
The prime minister said his 9 iron rules are intact but Kasit's case has not yet fitted the rules.
As part of the rule, the prime minister said Cabinet members must leave office when they face legal charges even before the cases are finalised by the Supreme Court.
But in Kasit's case, Abhisit said, the foreign minister so far faced only a summon order by police.
"Kasit has reported to police and it will be too much to demand him to resign just after he got a summon order," Abhisit said.
