20,000 Chiang Mai residents affected by flooding
Flooding worsened in the heart of Chiang Mai Thursday as more than 20,000 residents struggled badly and businesses suffered an estimated loss of Bt100 million a day.
"Night Bazaar, many shopping centres, hotels, restaurants and commercial banks on key roads like Chang Klan, Charoen Mueang, Charoen Prathet are flooded," Chiang Mai Tourism Association president Sarawut sae Tiao said Thursday.
He believed the damages to businesses were about Bt100 million a day.
The Ping River overflowed and sent floods to the Chiang Mai's economic zone since Wednesday.
"Floods have affected more than 20,000 residents," Chiang Mai disasterpreventionandmitigation chief Prajon Prachsakun said.
