Weapons seized from suspected arms trader

A suspected arms trader was nabbed on Tuesday night at his rented condominium in Bangkok's Pathumwan district along with war weapons. Sachaya Sathipongsasuthi, 39, was found with seven guns, some 3,000 bullets, gun parts, a night vision monocular and a bullet-proof vest.

Pol General Somyot Poompan-moung, a deputy national police chief, said yesterday that the man claimed to be a secretary for the National Council for Peace and Order and even pulled a gun at the arresting officers.

The Army confirmed Sachaya's statement was fabricated. This case wasn't related to the ongoing investigation of M79 attacks, he added.
