A MAN and woman were gunned down in separate attacks in broad daylight yesterday at a market in Pattani's Nong Chik district.
The victims were identified as Thoom Lekpetch, 49, of Nong Chik and Klong Boonkarn, 45, of Songkhla’s Na Mom district.
Initial police investigation showed that while Thoom was shopping for food at the market, a man who had been following her for a while, shot her three times in the back before fleeing.
At around the same time, a group of assailants opened fire at Klong, who had been sitting on a motorcycle waiting for his stepfather.
The assailants continued shooting the victim until he fell to the ground.
Separately, five rangers were wounded when a bomb exploded inside a school in Narathiwat’s Joh I Rong district.
The investigators found that the bomb had damaged the front wall of the Ban Ju Woh School and damaged up to 10 bicycles belonging to the students.
According to police report, the unit of 12 rangers had retreated to a pavilion near the front wall inspecting the school when the bomb went off. All 12 suffered shrapnel wounds.
