The annual military conscription period kicked off yesterday, with transvestites and transgender women among those reporting.

Panitan Nuchpramool, a 21-year-old transgender woman, turned many heads when she reported in Bangkok. A military registrar asked for a photo with her.
The Royal Thai Armed Forces will conduct the conscription draft until April 12, searching for healthy men of fighting age from 21 years old.
Transgender women who have a body not consistent with their birth sex and have undergone breast augmentation surgery and full gender reassignment operations are exempted from service.
The military needs about 101,307 new recruits this year.
