Toll of Deep South violence unveiled

The unrest in the Deep South has seen 15,192 violent incidents in the past decade, an informed source at the Internal Security Operations Command Region 4 Front reported yesterday.

Between January 4, 2004, and December 31, 2013, the unrest in Pattani, Narathiwat, Yala and four districts of Songkhla have seen 5,926 deaths (3,461 Muslims, 2,431 Buddhists and 34 others) and 10,593 injuries (3,761 Muslims, 6,694 Buddhist and 138 others). A total of 811 Thai national security officials (police officers and soldiers) were killed and 3,588 injured.
