Teen held for bank robbery

A teenager has been arrested for allegedly holding up the Government Savings Bank's Singha Nakhon branch in Songkhla province on Monday and making off with Bt115,000 in cash.

Wittawat Sammapanithan, 19, who police say acted alone, was presented to the press yesterday along with a Yamaha Fino motorcycle, a 30-centimetre-long knife and Bt75,220 in cash.

Wittawat, who was nabbed in tambon Nam Noi of Hat Yai district, reportedly confessed to robbing the bank and spending some of the Bt115,000 he made off with.

Police were working to get the rest of the stolen money back, said Pol Maj-General Chawalit Sawaengphuet, deputy commissioner of Provincial Police Region 9.
