Surin pays courtesy call on Yingluck
Former Asean secretary-general Surin Pitsuwan paid a brief courtesy call on Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra at Government House yesterday.
Surin, a prominent Democrat, former MP and foreign minister, finished his four-year term as ASEAN secretary-general at the end of last year.
During his visit, which lasted about 10 to 15 minutes, he reported on his duties as the head of Asean. Yingluck thanked Surin for his work in guiding the regional bloc and bringing ASEAN into a new era that will soon see the implementation of the ASEAN Economic Community.
Government Spokesman Tossaporn Serirak said the two exchanged opinions on working together in the AEC.
"Regardless of affiliation, capable people should join hands in bringing the country towards the ASEAN Economic Community," Tossaporn said.
