Southerners participate in writing contest

The Culture Ministry's Office of Contemporary Art And Culture (OCAC) has trained youths and members of the public from the southern border provinces in professional prose writing and also got them to take part in a writing contest titled "Good things in our homes".

OCAC director Khemchat Thepchai said that the activity allowed some 300 participants from Songkhla, Satun, Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat to express good things about their neighbourhoods such as culture, traditions and activities to people from other regions.

He said the training was organised last month by the respective provincial cultural offices, and the texts gathered and submitted for the subsequent contest. He said results of the contest, which has been going on annually since 2012, would be announced in August. The winning articles will be compiled into a printed book titled "Reung Dee Dee Tee Ban Rao" (Good things in our homes), which will also be available in an e-book format at the website www.ocac.go.th.
