A Thai man who returned from Mozambique sick was not infected with the deadly Ebola virus, Chanthaburi health official Dr Apirak Pisut-aporn clarified yesterday.

Responding to a rumour circulating on social media that the man had Ebola, Apirak and Bangkok Hospital Chanthaburi executives confirmed that the unnamed man, 39, was being treated for malaria and dysentery at the hospital since Thursday, and was now recovering.

Apirak said he had reported the man’s condition to the Public Health Ministry, adding that Mozambique was not an Ebola-affected area.
