A 41-year-old man was arrested with 142 Siamese rosewood logs worth Bt2 million as he was trying to bury them in a rice field in Si Sa Ket's Phu Sing district yesterday.

Amid a crackdown against illegal logging, Suphakit Phuangpun used a tractor to dig up a field in a bid to conceal the Siamese rosewood. However, a 30-strong team of police, paramilitary rangers, forestry officials and defence volunteers caught him in the act.
Suphakit was initially charged with illegal possession of the wood, with the evidence sent to Sri Sa Ket Forest Protection Unit in Prai Pana, Phu Sing district.
