SCB Life issues refund cheques in duping case
SCB Life Assurance yesterday said it has given refund cheques to 193 people out of 234 villagers in Lop Buri's Pattana Nikhom district who were duped by an agent into buying life insurance policies when they sought loans from the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives.
Executive vice president Wichai Cheewasrirungruang said in the statement that the company had found holders of 234 policies worth Bt4,372,004 and had so far refunded 193 policyholders a total of Bt3,777,543, while 41 other cases were still under inspection, with evidence being gathered for refunds.
Tambon Chonnoy Administrative Organisation member Rossukhon Jampadip said that her tambon only had one person who had not got a refund due to the lack of a payment receipt, hence more time was needed for investigation. She said the villagers who had got refunds did not want to press charges against the firm.
Lop Buri Office of Insurance Commission director Somkiat Saleepol said SCB Life Assurance had informed him that they had filed a police complaint on December 25 for embezzlement against the agent responsible for duping these people, but the case had not made much progress.
