A 4.8-magnitude earthquake hit Chiang Rai's Mae Suay district at dawn on Monday. An initial inspection showed that the quake, which occurred at 5.32am, caused slight damage to some houses in this remote region.

Several of the homes damaged in the previous earthquake developed more cracks.
Sawang Momdee, a member of the provincial rescue staff , said the epicentre of Monday quake was under forested and mountainous land so it did not affect residents so much.
However people were warned of possible landslides following heavy downpours in the areas.
